NEW RELEASE MONDAY: MOVIE REVIEW

THE BIG UGLY
Genre: Thriller
Starring: Ron Perlman, Malcolm McDowell, Leven Rambin, Vinnie Jones
Run Time: 1hr 46min
Released: July 24th, 2020

Neeyln (Vinnie Jones) has always been the loyal enforcer for crime boss Harris (Malcolm McDowell) back in London, taking care of problems and people that disrupt his illicit business. When Harris strikes a deal with an old friend – American oilman Preston (Ron Perlman) – they find themselves in the wild hills of West Virginia. Contracts are signed and the whiskey flows in celebration, but overnight Neelyn’s girlfriend disappears, last seen with Preston’s wayward son Junior. Lines are drawn between family and friends, but nothing will stop Neelyn from getting answers — and retribution.

This movie is a nice concept, though it could have been better written. The characters were too plain, clichéd and dumb, but the cast did a decent job of it. The presence of several showdown scenes with crisp fighting proves a redemption for this movie. Not a big bang, but still a decent watch

NEW RELEASE MONDAY: MOVIE REVIEW

THE OUTPOST
Genre: Drama, History, War
Starring:  Orlando Bloom, Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Milo Gibson, and Jack Kesy
Run Time: 2hrs 3min
Released: July 3rd, 2020

The film tells the story of the 53 U.S. soldiers and two Latvian military advisors who battled a force of some 400 enemy insurgents in north-eastern Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. Originally built to engage the locals in community development projects, Combat Outpost Keating — located at the bottom of three steep mountains just 14 miles from the Pakistani border — faced a constant threat of being attacked by the Taliban, putting the U.S. soldiers stationed there at significant risk. When the Taliban heard of US military officials intentions to close the outpost, they decided to make a statement.

This movie is a very thrilling movie and leaves the viewers on the edge of the seats for long periods of time. Sublime acting as well as a good flowing script coupled with awesome camera shots makes this one a great watch.

NEW RELEASE MONDAY: BOOK REVIEW

MONUMENT By Philip Bosshardt
Genre: Sci Fi
Published: July 2, 2020
Words: 113,600
Language: English
ISBN: 9781005175757

Two architects separated in time by 900 years battle over how to use the planet Jupiter in their grandest legacy projects. One wishes to cement his place in history. The other, a distant descendant, must save a dying Sun. Only one person, the woman they both love, can bridge the divide between past and future, between two monumental egos and an existential crisis threatening the very future of Man.

This novel plot is simple and easy to follow. The time travel subplot adds flavor to the book. It is very detailed (maybe a little bit too detailed) that pulls the reader into the story.
