MONEYBALL
GENRE: Drama, Biography, Inspirational
STARRING: Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman
RUN TIME: 2hrs 13min
RELEASED: September 23rd, 2011

This movie is an account of the Oakland Athletics baseball team's 2002 season and their general manager Billy Beane's attempts to assemble a competitive team.In the film, Beane (Brad Pitt) and assistant GM Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), faced with the franchise's limited budget for players, build a team of undervalued talent by taking a sophisticated sabermetric approach to scouting and analyzing players.

This is the story of a man who realizing his unfortunate situation, takes a bold and unusual step to make the best out of it realizing something important in the process. The movie features great performances by the actors (for turning a seemingly bad combination of economics and baseball into a gem), lovely screenplay, intriguing storyline and great dialogs. The almost absence of field plays gives the film a more complete and universal reach.

THE  BOOK  OF DEACON,  Volume 1By Joseph R. Lallo

Language: English
ISBN: 9781452402604

The find will change her life, sending her on an adventure of soldiers and rebels, wizards and warriors, and beasts both noble and monstrous. Each step will bring her closer to the truth of her potential, of the war, and of the fate of her world.

This book has it all, Wizard in tower and hundred-year war, underground fighters, utopian school, evil kings, ghost soldiers, dragons, Mermaid, the fairy and Foxman. Also the book does not look well edited and pointless and redundant lines features prominently. However when you get over the clutter and mindless chatter, this book make for an exciting read that leaves you wanting more.

FUN FRIDAY: BOOK REVIEW

ORACLE'S LEGACY: CHILDREN OF
 SUN (Book 1) by R. B. Holbrook
GENRE: Sci Fi, Adventure
PUBLISHED: Oct. 24, 2010
WORDS: 122,830
LANGUAGE: English
ISBN: 9781452349725

The Oracle, leader of a secret civilization known as the Structure, is dying. As the Structure tips deep into darkness, a new leader is needed to prevent conflict among the Houses from escalating. Ollie could be the key to finding the next leader, but her family comes first. However, as power hungry factions hunt for Ollie, she will do whatever it takes to protect her loved ones.

This novel is the story of a heroine caught in the game of political intrigues and suspense. The book starts out in chaos with so many characters fleetingly introduced and an ambiguous plot, but it slowly builds up, narrowing down the character list and giving the reader an idea of the story. The story ends on a strong note. An interesting but slightly confusing read.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: MOVIE REVIEW

LEMONADE MOUTH
Genre: Drama, Comedy
Starring: Bridgit Mendler, Adam Hicks, Naomi Scott, Hayley Kiyoko and Blake Michael.
Run Time: 1hr 33min
Released: April 15th, 2011

The movie tells the story of five high school students who meet in detention and form a band to stand up for their beliefs and to overcome their individual and collective struggles.

This movie is actually great (something that can not be said of most Disney movies). Lovely acting, great chemistry between the actors, a straight forward plot and awesome music makes this movie one of the best Disney movies ever ( from their arsenal of recycled plots of course). Aside from the clichéd, cheesy plot of the movie and bad editing, this movie is worth a watch.

LOVE WEDNESDAY: BOOK REVIEW

SAD LOVE STORY By Ajagbe Ayodeji David
Published : DailyPress PLC

This book tells the story of Oluwatimileyin Turner, an average man who was at the lowest point in his life, he met Faridah.

Faridah was the only daughter of a proud and arrogant billionaire father. Faridah accepted Timmy’s proposal and gave him her love. But when her father’s business partner got to know about their relationship, he tried all possible means to separate them. Did he succeed in breaking them apart?

This novel is a classic Rich girl in love with a poor boy tale to the dismay of the girl's father. Throw in a rival who won't take no for an answer and you have a thrilling tale. Though at about 70 pages, it is too brief with little or rushed plots and leaves the readers not getting full satisfaction from the book

INSPIRATION TUESDAY: MOVIE REVIEW

HACKSAW RIDGE
GENRE: Drama, Biography, Historical
STARRING: Andrew Garfield,Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, and Vince Vaughn.
RUN TIME: 2hrs 19min
RELEASED: November 4th, 2016

The film focuses on the World War II experiences of Desmond Doss, an American pacifist combat medic who, as a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, refused to carry or use a weapon or firearm of any kind. Doss became the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor, for service above and beyond the call of duty during the Battle of Okinawa.

This movie is a tale of courage, determination and faithfulness to one's believes in the face of adversity. While remaining partially sincere to true story, the addition of extraordinary battle scenes, great acting, a perfect dose of violence, impeccable camera shots and angles and the use of natural lighting makes this movie a head above the rest in war movies circles.

A lovely movie about two people who don't like each other end up falling in love under unusual circumstances. The plot is quite recycled, so very little surprise to be found, but the writers spiced it up with good dialogs. The cast did a superb job with the script. All in all this movie is sweet and funny.

This movie is the story of brave individuals who rise up against a backdrop of racism and prejudice using the power of the mind.
The film has a perfect cast, awesome cinematography and a great plot. The movie is quite clichéd with the underdog getting the best of their adversary but still a great movie.
