The dull drudgery of twenty-year-old Ethan Jones’ life is shattered when he rescues a mysterious Japanese girl from the degenerate, savage Skel, while out foraging in post-apocalyptic Melbourne’s ruins. The girl goes on to break the town's rigid conventions in her attempts to get to know him, risking the dire wrath of the town’s paramilitary Custodians.

This book follows the life of a young man after a year amnesia. The story takes place in a post apocalyptic near future, set in the ruins of Melbourne. The young man must navigate a strictly rigid society, while trying to remember the missing time period, deal with his unique but misunderstood abilities and falling in love with a young woman who is a stranger but feels familiar.
